In this Turtle Beach x11 review (and the video review below), you’re going to learn the good, the bad and the ugly about this mid-range gaming headset, without the BS. The [easyazon_link asin=”B0083VTBTY” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”vicdor-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”]Turtle Beach Ear Force X11[/easyazon_link] headset is an extremely popular headset due to its availability and affordable price in some of the mainstream stores. I think it’s quite easy to say with this headset that there are a lot more positives to it than negatives, which you’d expect these days, but it all depends on what type of gamer you are and what you’re looking for out of a headset that defines just how good or bad the X11 is.

I’ll say it now to get it out of the way; the Turtle Beach X11s are best for casual gamers like me. There are other headsets out there that will get you better sound quality and voice clarity, better durability and marginally better comfort (the X11s are rather comfortable), but the X11s will “do a job”. So, if you’re looking for a headset that is really going to propel your gaming experience to a new level, I’d suggest spending a bit more money on the [easyazon_link asin=”B002KSPKRS” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”vicdor-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”]Turtle Beach X41s[/easyazon_link] or Astro A40s.

If I’m being completely honest and candid, if you’re new to wearing headsets whilst gaming then the X11 headphones will heighten your sense of awareness and improve your gameplay experience. But, to the veterans and other experienced audiophiles, the X11 headset is no more than an affordable upgrade on your television speakers.

No Turtle Beach x11 review would be complete without an honest assessment of the hardware components.

The headset has a stereo output whereas an upgrade will have a surround sound output that makes gaming a lot better and enables you to really get involved in the environment. The X11 headphones, for example, will aid you in pinpointing the locations of the sounds of footsteps in a Call of Duty game, but they won’t be able to help you identify whether the footsteps are coming from above or below you. There’s a less 3D feel to the sound with these headphones that more expensive headsets are able to provide.

If we’re talking about the X11s and the X11s only, then I would say that they’re a handy set of headphones to have, assuming you’re a casual gamer and that’s all you want out of them.

I have experience with some more top of the range headphones both for music and gaming, but I would say the X11s can more than comfortably meet my needs of playing games at night without disturbing the people I live with. The main game I use headphones for is on my Xbox playing the Modern Warfare series which I’m extremely good at, so don’t need too much aid in identifying where enemies are going to spawn and appear from.

I have the knowledge of the games and understanding of the maps to predict where people are going to pop up, so I don’t need to rely on, and don’t get, extra sound to aid my victories. Other quality headsets will help me in that extra way, and some people may want or need that, but I don’t need it so the X11 is more than capable of meeting my immediate requirements of keeping things quiet in my household. That’s just to put it in perspective for you.

What I do really like about the Turtle Beach X11s is that they have a microphone monitoring system. This means that whatever noise travels into your microphone is fed back into your headset so that you can hear yourself speaking and are able to monitor yourself from shouting too loud – again, a feature which meets my requirements for casual gaming late at night. It doesn’t affect communication with your teammates and there are two dials for communication controls; one for game volume and one for chat volume. It’s a feature that works well because you won’t have to worry about not hearing your teammates over loud explosions or other inaudible passages of play that would otherwise drown them out.

In terms of the X11’s comfort, I would say it is up there with the best. There a lot of comments on the older version (the Turtle Beach X1) not being as comfortable and people having issues of irritation whilst wearing them but the X11 is a huge upgrade.

The headset is equipped with a soft, oval shaped ear design that fits around the ear, with a neoprene material to maximize comfort. You can play long sessions of a video game or watch back to back episodes of a TV show without any interruptions because of ear fatigue or irritation and this, I believe, is one of their best selling points because I am hard up to find a pair of headphones I can wear for hours on end. This, coupled with a flexible and sturdy microphone as well as a soft, padded leather material for the headband, makes for overall a very good design in my opinion with little to no issues. The earphones themselves are a nice surprise in regards to their comfort but the headband is what you would expect from a headset of this price range. Put it this way: comfort isn’t an issue with the X11s.

As for the compatibility of the headset, you can plug your X11s straight off the bat into a PC without any problems. For your TV, it could be a little different. If you have a headphone port in your TV, then you can plug it straight into there, and then have the cord connected from your Xbox controller if you want to play Xbox live. That’s relatively simple. However, if your TV doesn’t have a headphone port, Turtle Beach have provided an adapter to hook the cables up from your Xbox, to the X11, to the TV. Problem solved and no extra outlay.

Lastly, the X11 does have a minor issue in that there is a slight “hissing” in the background when your headphones are hooked up by USB. It was more apparent in the older, X1 model and is there again with the X11. Obviously, the headphones would be better without this issue, but they’re not a problem and are masked when you have something playing. It’s only really noticeable when you have no sound coming through the headphones. But, you didn’t buy headphones to not have sound playing through them.

As the X11s are reliant on USB power, it takes away a lot of versatility for using the headphones whilst being mobile, so they really are only good for being used at home plugged into one of the devices I mentioned above.

Overall, I would recommend the Turtle Beach X11s, but only to the right individual. As I mentioned before, it really is best for people new to the experience of using headphones or those like me that aren’t as fussed about getting the best sound experience as possible.

At a price ranging between $30-50, what the X11s provide you with are a basic foundation for gaming privately and quietly in a room, but also with access to chat features and volume control. To me, that’s all I need and as I talked about, meets my requirements just fine. For some, they will want more out of a headset but there are pros and cons to everything on the market; some headsets won’t give you the ability to talk online to your friends but will have the highest quality sound possible. When you are shopping, you’ll have to bear in mind what you want from the headset primarily.

As a part of this Turtle Beach x11 review, I found some video to evaluate actual gameplay. Check the video below:

The Turtle Beach X11s provide both; a decent sound system and communication. For a price as small as it is, and for what you get for it, it’s easy to see why they’re one of the most popular headsets around for private purchase and for gifts.

While you can still find the x11s, Turtle Beach released the upgraded version with the x12 headset, so here’s a side-by-side video comparison of the two gaming headsets.
